I drew a unit 6 tag for the Vedauwoo area east of Laramie. I've been in the area a number of times but have never hunted there. I will be there in September for a couple weeks (beginning sometime around the 12th) for the bow season. If anyone is willing to share info for this unit I would appreciate hearing from you.

That's the first I've ever heard of that unit being mentioned on any of the half dozen websites I'm on, so I can't help by even directing you to someone else. Your timing should be about right because we always hunt the last two weeks of September when anyone I know that bow hunts draws a tag. If you don't have anyone respond with some help, the bulls should be making some noise to help you find them on your own as the last half of the month is usually a magical and fun time to be out after them. Not much to the area, as it pretty small. The elk population is decent, so you should find elk. Lots of recreators up there that time of year. There are a few holes and pockets where one can get away from the roads (not very far) to find where elk might get pushed.

I grew up in Laramie and know that mountain very well. I'll start by saying take your fishing poles as there are numerous places to fish. It is nice easy to get around country with some nice bulls. The elk range covers national forest and a lot of private land. There are several land owners that charge a small trespass fee for access to improve your odds. Call the Laramie Game and Fish office for a listing. Given two weeks I think you can have success on the forest ground but if I were travelling in I would look to gain some private access. The actual Vedauwoo rock area is covered with tourists 7 days a week as this is some of the best rock climbing anywhere. Its fun to see but your elk hunting will be poor close to this area. I would start your hunt closer to Curt Gowdy State Park and back to the west. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions or need more detail.

I actually ran into 3 bulls yesterday in vedauwoo while i was hiking around. I also had this tag a couple seasons ago and pulled one out of there. There are a few spots I would recommend. Back behind north crow resevoir...just pay attention to private land signs. You can't hunt right by the lake either so just know the boundries. Then check out sherman mountain...you can escape the people because there aren't really any roads up there. This is an interesting hunting area with all the people out just doing recreational stuff, but also a pretty solid elk population. let me know if you have any other questions. good luck
Thanks for the info. I just recently finalized my plans. I'll be arriving on the 16th of September and I'll be there for the remainder of the month. I've been in the area a couple days or more each of the last three years and have done enough scouting to at least have a few ideas on where to go but am always open to learning more. If you have any further specifics to share shoot me a pm as the more info I can gather the better prepared I can be. What caliber of bulls can I realistically expect to see?

There are 350 class bulls in this unit but again with the elk being very spread out I don't think an archery hunter can expect to see one every trip. To me this is an area a hunter should be willing to take the first decent bull that gives an opportunity unless you are willing to go home without punching your tag.
