I am a Wyoming resident fairly new to elk hunting. After doing some research, I am considering applying for area 45. Has anybody hunted this area? Is shooting a branch antlered bull a realistic possibly? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Please go over to the new members section and give us an introduction.

Area 45 is a great area but tough to draw. If you are new to elk hunting, I recommend getting a cow tag and learning the ropes a bit. Gain knowledge of the area through hunting cows and then when you draw your bull tag, you will have a much better chance at success.

Where do the elk winter in 45, do they leave the unit completely, head to private or stay on 45 public.

AT Hiker, I believe a lot of the elk go off the mountain to the west, around the Tensleep and Hyatteville area. There is a late season hunt in this area.
