Hi All,
Assuming the unit is actually 100% draw like it says I will be headed out there this fall with a cow elk tag. I picked this unit based on the recommendation of an acquaintance who lives out that way and said that we would have a decent chance at getting a cow elk or two. I have been out west on guided hunts before but we will be going DIY for the first time driving out from Michigan. Which is why we wanted to go after cows first to get our feet wet.
Any input would be greatly appreciated as I am building a huge data base of information and am already running in to paralysis by analysis! Any info on the Kerns Management unit? I have read that is can be decent once the snow comes but is it worth taking a look before then? Also, is there a detailed map somewhere that shows the cut off line for antlerless elk on public ground? Do not have a quad but have a side by side but I know there are restrictions for 50" or wider orvs...is it worth bringing or are we better off driving to where we can and then hiking in. Camping recommendations? Any and all info is welcome.
PM me if you prefer!
