Wyoming elk pp question

Is it possible to put in for pref points each year in an area that is hard to draw that will take about 6 points to get a tag but also have a chance of getting an elk tag in Wyoming with out using the pp points that u want to build up for. Would I have to put first choice down the area I'm building up points and then put second choice for a hope to get tag, or am I way off. Or do I just have to wait for my time to come to get a elk tag in that limited draw area. Thanks for any advice

So you want to get a tag that needs 6 points but you don't want to use any points? If you draw your first choice tag, you will use all of your points. Even if you draw it in the random drawing, your points will be used up.

Also, you will only use your points if you draw on your first choice. The only way to not use points is to draw a tag with your 2nd choice. About the only tag you can draw on your 2nd choice is either a cow tag or maybe the general tag if you put in for the special drawing. So basically for your first choice put down a unit that has the worst draw odds and then for your 2nd choice put down something that has tags leftover after the first drawing to try and draw with your 2nd choice. To find out which units have tags available after the 1st drawing, go to the random draw odds section on the WY website and see if they gave out any tags to people as their 2nd choices.
