Wyoming Elk Area 100 tag numbers

Looks like they increased to total number of tags in Elk area 100 from 150 in 2015 to a proposed 500 in 2016 (including cow tags) if I'm reading the regulations correctly .

Anyone know why they increased by this much? Didn't realize the herd was big enough to support this many tags....population must be booming or something.

I'm bettin that because of the demand, which means one thing for them.....more$$$$. 500 tags just seems to me to be too damn many. That desert country will be crawling with vehicles opening day!

Too bad, Wy G & F has setup the demise of a great (and unique)elk hunting area.

I guess no one thinks maybe the habitat needs the population reduced? Drought in that area is not over, the edge of the Red Desert.

I thing predators in the mountians keep pushing elk into the desert. I have beed seeing elk in places i have never seen them before out there.

I wouldn't say we are in a drought here in rock springs. The elk numbers are up I'm pretty sure but they are competing with a the horses. They should give 500 do anything with the horse tags

I think there's a federal protection law. Hence the ridiculous fine of up to $100,000 for killing one of those mutts. The high fines should be for trophy bucks and bulls and they should be paying someone to get rid of the horses. What a terrible waste of a protein source for a great many humans on this planet that would enjoy the meat

I've ate horse before, is actually pretty dang good. I'd fill a tag if they let you hunt them.

Same here. From what I understand, the lack of slaughter facilities leads to the dumping of animals on public land. That leads to starving horses and overpopulation.

I suppose this is a prime example of, "No good deed goes unpunished."
