You definitely need to be able to go when they are on the refuge. Bulls tags are much easier to fill most of the season. I talked with both outfitters on the Refuge and either would be good to go with. Their hunts consist of putting you on a horse and riding you right up to the herd for a shot. The days the bison were not on the refuge the outfitters would ride the hunters around for a bit then sit and wait for them to come over. The issue I had was with one 20 year old guide who thought he was doing a guy a favor but ended up not so good for him. The outfitter he works for is good. You can do it on your own as we did. Conditions can be tough, cold and deep snow. But it is very rewarding when you get it done on your own. Getting the animal retrieved for you helps a great bit.
