Am I understanding the type 9 tag correctly as was explained to me by another? If I draw a type 9 tag for elk and am unsuccessful am I then able to hunt the type 1 hunt for the same unit with rifle?

Ok. So maybe I miss understood. If I draw a type 1 or 2 tag then I can archery hunt during the type 9 season then with a bow and then rifle hunt later?

There are unit specific dates when you're allowed to archery hunt with the type 1 and 2 tags. Usually if the unit has a type 9 tag, you can't use your type 1 and 2 tag for archery until a certain date.

For the most part, the type 9 tags allow you u to hunt the first two weeks of sept before the type 1 tags can bowhunt but it varies from unit to unit. Some units allow both type 9 and type 1 tags to bowhunt but some only allow one or the other, I think. Type 1 tags allow u to start bowhunting sept 15 vs sept 1 for type 9. But like I say it varies unit to unit
