Hey All

Looking to plan a 2018 archery elk hunt with my father in Wyoming. Currently sitting with one less than max points, any suggestions?

Thanks

I know where I would go!

If you want the best, do some research on draw statistics for the "special" tags (higher priced) that are drawing with one less than max. Make a list of all units that can be drawn with one less than max. Don't worry about areas that are much easier to draw, or those that take max points. You will drastically narrow the choices and I'll bet it will become pretty clear where to apply. This exercise should take about 30 minutes.

7 has access issues but lots of elk. Some good public ground but it gets hunted hard . I would go with a different area but I won't mention it here.

aren't certain areas rotated every 3 years...? ie, only open once every 3 years, those sound promising. Not sure if those are rifle only or archery only or both?

good luck, I have 1 less than max elk as well, should cash them in sooner than later myself.

Archery hunting Unit 7 during the rut was the most fun hunt my dad and I have ever been on. We found an outfitter that was very reasonable for a 5-day hunt on private for the last week in Sept. It was by far the most rutting action we have seen in 15+ yrs of elk hunting with some very nice bulls into the mid 300" range. I didn't get my elk during archery season and was able to go back out there the last week in rifle season to fill my tag for a reasonable price. We're back up to 9 points now so we'll be going back with them very soon.
