My hunting buddy talked to a blm land manager or something like that the other day and he told him he was just through a good chunk of unit 63 and didnt see any antelope. Hes kind of worried now and justifies it by this guy is through this property all the time. I'm more the optimist and we picked this unit based on all the positive data i have found over the years, so my question is should the blm guy go get his vision checked or was there some freak die off that has been covered up and all the antelope have dissapeared in 63. thanks for the responses guys i cant wait were leaving in 6 days.
There are enough antelope there to make the hunt fun but its not like its was. We just returned from hunting the unit across the highway from 63 and saw about half the goats we did last year. We filled our tags and it was a good time but I fear last year may have been the peak and we are on the way down now.
63 is not what it used to be, not even close. It has been hyped off information that is now out of date. That BLM guy probably didn't see any goats because he never left the road. Most the goats close to the roads died opening weekend, those that were near the roads and survived probably don't stand around the roads anymore. You will find goats to shoot, it will be a good time don't worry, but there are not nearly the number of big goats there used to be. I would be shocked if you saw one over 80.
Stop and talk to some of the taxis in Casper, they will tell you what areas the bigger goats are coming from these days and its not unit 63.
