Wyoming Antelope Doe Unit 83

I drew a couple doe antelope tags in Unit 83. Although I do have some access to some private land I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience hunting this area for does? Also I was wondering what exactly the definition is of hunting within 1/2 mile of irrigated land? Also is there any public land in the unit that is considered irrigated? for example is the Absaroka Front HMA area considered irrigated land? or any of the walk in hunting areas considered irrigated land?

I'm sure some of the WIA have irrigated land just from looking at them on google earth. Highly doubtful any public land has irrigation on it but there might be some within the 1/2 mile designation. Best to get a google earth overlay with private/public land and see what there is.
If you see green in the desert pretty good chance that it's grass/alfalfa fields that are irrigated!

It means exactly what it says and that is that you'll have to be either on or within 1/2 mile of private property because there is no irrigated public land that I'm aware of in Wyoming, which has that requirement in a number of units to try and help the ranchers that are having a probelm with crop damage.

What about state land? Two years ago on my first trip to wy I had a doe tag just west of Casper. There was one square block of state land--on map and GPS chip-- that had a water pivot and antelope on it. Stopped and looked at them and even considered a stalk but it just didn't feel right. I'm almost 100% positive it was state land but there were tractors and other equipment around.

pretty much all the land within 1/2 mile of irrigated land is going to be private. wait til the wy g&f puts out the list of landowners allowing people to hunt on their land, not sure but think its around july 10th possibly, and contact them. these are landowners that want people to come out and take out some of the population, I would imagine especially does, so you shouldn't have any problem getting access to hunt. good luck and I'm sure you'll do just fine and have plenty of antelope meat this fall.

I hunted doe antelope the last two years in 83. Call the game warden and he may be able to give you the names of ranchers that want does taken off their fields. He gave me a few names last season. We filled 4 doe antelope tags in one morning.
It might be a good thing to give them some thing in exchange for letting you hunt. I gave them some smoked salmon and they really appreciated it.
Did you draw a buck tag there? I tried but I only had one point and I didn't even draw my two doe tags. They really cut the doe antelope quota in that area. Good luck on your hunt.

The state does lease out sections of land for farming and allows ranchers to irrigate it or to put in water lines to water their cattle. If that was state land and there was a pivot to irrigate the field, the proper procedure is to contact the rancher who is working the property and ask for permission to hunt it. It is up to them in that kind of situation to allow or deny you access. If all they have is the grazing rights on a section of land, then you can hunt it legally without asking them.

I put in for that unit as well for buck and doe tags. I didn't draw either so I'm going to pay a trespass fee on the east side of Wyoming. I'm tired of waiting to hunt antelope in Oregon. I contacted fish and game before I put in for the unit 83 tag. He assured me that he would get me information to gain access to fill doe tags. He told me to contact him when I drew the tag. I also studied the BLM maps and Google maps. There is a lot of irrigated land along the rivers/creeks that holds the irrigated fields. BLM buts up against all of these properties that a guy could hike around to fill a couple of tags. Good Luck
