It looks like we have agreed on an area for our group. We will be applying for Area 43 and was wondering if anyone had any info on this area that they would be willing to share. I realize that it is limited public access but there are two HMAs, Laramie River and Diamond Lake. Any preferences of one over the other?

Plenty of antelope on both opening morning. They can get very skittish after the opener and hunting can get difficult. That said, we have taken antelope off of both weeks after opening day. I wouldn't consider either a good option for a big buck but should be plenty of 10-12" bucks available. If you have very many guys, it may be better to split between the two areas? 43 is not a terrible option for a 1 pp area. Also, don't ignore the smaller BLM sections as sometimes those can be better hunting with less pressure. Good luck.

We're putting in for doe tags in that unit. The HMAs look plenty big enough to get out of sight of the roads.

It's been a few since we hunted it, but it will be busy on opening day. While 43 is not known for big bucks I believe if you have time waiting out the opening weeks will help. Lots of smaller bucks will be taken early and by the rut some bigger ones will show up. End of Oct. can be cold hunting but more antelope will be on the HMA's by end of the season. Good advice to split your group between the 2 HMA's. The smaller sections will have some antelope off and on throughout the season.
