The Area 115 Type 6 (doe/fawn) opening date was changed from Oct 1 to Sept 1 this year. Can anyone familiar with the area tell me when to go? I previously went to the Oct 1 opener but now wondering if it might be better to go in September?

I'd got the middle of September and you probably won't have too much traffic to contend with since the buck license doesn't start until 10/1, deer on 10/15, and the elk tags don't start until 10/9. The antelope will be where they are in September just like in October in the unit, as it's not a migratory type of hunt. With the increase in tags there may be some that will want to rush out there and fill their tags on the opener and that's another reason to wait a week or two.

Sound advice there from Top Gun. Hunting during low hunting pressure is great for many obvious reasons but here is another- I am a believer that calm antelope taste better so low hunting pressure there in the middle should lead to some tasty does. IMO, antelope that have been run all day have a much stronger smell and taste.

Hilltop, one thing about September is that I am concerned about heat. I got my doe into a cooler w/ ice inside and out within 30 min. That was October, it was only about 70 degrees out. I know other hunters are more relaxed about it, but all I can say is my ground pronghorn is near to fresh ahi tuna in pure, clean flavor.

But good point about calm vs running, that is probably even more crucial!

I agree with cooling them down fast... I always take a 10 gallon jug of water, per antelope, to wash and cool them down. I then have bags of ice to put on them after washing. I usually don't skin mine until I can hang them at camp or at a house depending on where I'm hunting. I find the hair easier to control if they are hanging. The weather is a crap shoot... I shot mine last year in a blizzard. I have also taken archery bucks in August when it was 85 degrees....
