We drew our buck tags and would like to pick up a left over doe tag to accompany us on the hunt this fall. I know the 3 units I mentioned have left over tags for a reason.....access issues. Anyone care to share info to help me narrow my focus.

One area I could use some help with is I'm struggling to figure out what roads are public. I've got a couple calls into game wardens to see if they can help me. I've been looking at my Wyoming GPS chip on Garmin Basecamp and I've been looking at BLM maps, but how do you figure out what roads are public?

What for the call back from the wardens, they get these questions a lot and know were you can and can't drive.
A different route is to call the county and ask if they are county maintained roads or privately maintained.
Google earth and you BLM maps will show lots of roads, some don't even exist in some cases, and many more are private.

Im in the same boat as you. What I plan to do, is to check which of the nearby units have the most land enrolled in the walk in program. It comes out on the 10th, an my friends and I will be picking up leftover doe tags accordingly!

I hunted 16 last year, first time out and had some problems figuring out public vs private, but was generally able to figure it out. GPS with landowner chip is essential. Also, I bumped into a BLM guy out in the field who was able to point me toward a few more access points. There's a BLM office in Buffalo. You might want to give them a call as well.
