Well I am thinking about splitting my points with my dad and Hunting next year in the special draw. We are looking at unit 78 and unit 90. I know that they are in different parts of the state. If anyone has hunted either units or has insight it would help. I don?t see any need to keep building points. Dad is getting up there in age and it?s time to get some hunts in.
Is the trophy quality roughly the same?
Both have good public land options
Which unit it more seanic

Like always thanks in advance. It?s groups like this that have helped me get out of state and hunt.

Thanks

I really think you can find good bucks in most areas. The 90’s are a great choice with lots of public land and lots of animals.

How many PP will you have ? Lots of great areas all around the state. Are you looking to combine with some sightseeing up near Yellowstone or just looking for some good access and great hunting. You might get in some sage grouse hunting in the right areas ,and fishing .
Do you want to camp or hotel base, be near the mountains or experience the desert?
With the right PP you can pretty much have it the way you want.
Some areas are known for trophy bucks but you can find great bucks in almost any unit with time and patience.
Give yourselves 7-10 days and have a great hunt and a chance to see some great scenery after the tags are filled.

If you are looking for a good time, you have plenty of options. If you are trophy hunting then you still have plenty of options.

I have 5 points and my dad 2. So we will average 3.5 and in the special draw hopefully can get 90 or 78. 78 seems more likely looking at last years odds. I am at the point that I either need to hunt or just really wait it out for another 5 years and get into a vary hard draw area. Thinking hunting sounds better and if for some reason I want to wait again I can always build points back up. Not looking for a book goat. It would be nice but more something in the 78ish range probably would be a good goal. Not wanting to shoot just any animal. Also not sure how many years I am going to be able to hunt with my dad so I want to build some memories. Thinking that is all else is equal 78 might be a little pretty on the eyes. Plus if we tag out earlier fishing/bird hunting could be an added bonus. Probably looking at the second or third week after the crowds have left and the animals have settled down.

I would also like to add some does also if possible. I have heard that meat is great and the more I can get the better. The family loves wild game.

If there is another unit that fits the bill then please let me know. These are the two that stuck out with lots of public and roughly 3-4 points in the special. The other option is for me get a unit with my 5 points and add doe tags for my dad and then repeat the same thing a couple years later when he has built his points up

I am thinking real hard of just making this hunt happen and then make the best of it.

Thanks again

I don't have much experience and it may change from year to year but I will throw out my experience. There is a lot of good antelope hunting in Wyoming. I had 6 points and decided it would be better to hunt with a buddy (with no points) last year than to wait a few more years to draw the very limited trophy areas. Ended up picking a unit that a couple years ago could be drawn with no points. It was a for sure draw. Best decision I could of made. We got the buck tags and 2 doe tags each. In this area I saw many bucks in the upper 70's to 80 inch range. I bet with a little research and work on the phone you have no need to go with a special tag. My advice is hunt hard and you can find good bucks all over Wyoming. I might add the better bucks were all over 2 miles in from the road. I walked a total of 43.6 miles in 13 days of antelope and mule deer hunting.

Thanks I will dig in a little and look up some zones that can be drawn without the special. Both of us are hard hunters and wouldn’t plan on shooting anything near the truck.
