Hey Y'all

Got 7 points going into the draw this year. I was looking at 106 UINTAs for elk this year. Looks like it takes about 9 in the regular draw and one (?) in the special draw. My dad drew 45 last year and got an elk so he is back to square one. I wanted to share my points with him this year which would give us 3.5 collectively. Is 106 worth our points in the special draw?
I was curious what access like down there and terrain. The Blm and USFS maps don't look promising as far as the color legends go. Looks cool on google earth though and is the closest zone for us on the best coast. Just looking for opinions, ideas and super secret honey holes.
Or where could we burn 3.5 points on elk. I am looking for 400":) but will settle for any elk really. I was thinking also up in Region G deer zone just to scout for deer and see what that area is like. I would assume there are elk up there as well. A guide I talked to at the ISE show mentioned 38 because of access but that would be a 24 hour drive for us. It was about 19 hours to buffalo this year.
All info and insults will be taken well
Cheers

Area 106 was a 40% draw last year with 3 points or 100% draw with 3.5. It was 100% draw in the special with zero points. IMO you would be wasting 7 points on this area because it is an easy to draw area- not saying you couldn't shoot an elk here but it isn't worth the special draw for sure.

I don't mind burning my points as long as my dad gets to hunt again as well. Is it easy to draw because of access problems?

I think access and herd movement are the biggest reasons. Area 106 elk spend a lot of time in Utah and there is minimal accessible public land which will concentrate hunters. I honestly think the majority of the applicants are going through outfitters. The competition drives the non-resident points up. Another thing to consider- this area only had 83 resident applications last year. Residents typically are hunting the public land so this should give you a better snap shot of local opinion- not great. I really think you would be better served in a different LQ area or even with general tags. Good luck in your decision making.

looked at the mrs in the mag today and according to eastmans journal there is only 15% public. that is pretty skinny and I am sure some of that is behind gates I don't have keys to. looks like another zone will get my app. 98? 48? IDK
