I dont think it is detering that many people since it now takes 4 points to draw it. Its the only unit I have noticed with poor access that takes any points to draw. I would consider a unit like that 2nd choice but to me there are alot better units that can be had with 4 points. Luckily we all look for different things when choosing a unit or we would all apply for the same unit and the draw odds would be 10,000-1 while all the other units had leftover tags. lol
***How can you say that when there were only 9 tags in that draw and hardly anyone put in for them until it got down to 4PPS? It looks like if what you said was remotely true there would be a lot of applicants for the tags!

Thanks to everyone for their input thus far. The lack of public land in 55 does concern me as I'd rather concentrate more on hunting than always checking the map to see where we can hunt. Makes me lean more towards 48. I hunted 96 4 years ago and had a fun hunt but looking to see some new country. Any thoughts about 90-1??? Not sure we have the points to draw 91 or 92

Looks like 90-1 is east of hwy 191 and 90-2 is west of 191. 90-1 is the smaller of the 2 but looks like its mostly public land. I think either would be a good hunt and have good access.

90-1 is a good area, we used to get doe tags out there all the time. Honestly I can't tell a difference between 90,91,92,93 and 96. The quality and quantity of Antelope is pretty uniform. Between me and my friends we've had several doe tags in all these units and have drawn a few buck tags. All of them have 70" bucks and a few 80". Spent quite a bit of time in all of them since I'm only a couple hours away we go out all the time to shoot p-dogs and rabbits.

Ya lost me Topgun and what does *** mean? lol
In another way of saying it, if the unit was so popular there would be a lot more applicants and it would take more than 3 or 4 PPs to get one of the few tags---Comprende? The *** is something I started doing on a couple websites where it was hard to differentiate who was posting and who was being quoted. This site is nice in that the quote is shaded in yellow and stands out easily! Sorry if the *** bothers you, so I made sure to leave them out in my response, LOL!

I think for a checkerboard unit its very popular to take 4 points considering most units with comparable access take 0 points and most that take 4 points have much better access. I know of units with leftover tags that look better to me but I have never been to 55 so there could be something I dont know about it and could be better then I think. LOL*** doesnt bother me I have just been curious what it meant is all.

That's good the *** don't bother you because I'll probably revert back to them again out of sheer habit! I guess as far as popularity you could look at that unit from either of our perspectives and I do see where you're coming from now and see your point.

For me to use any points a unit has to have good sized chunks of blm and access to it. I will usually take access over anything else. I dont mind walking and hunting hard but i want to have a good place to do it. 2nd choice I will deal with alot of things and Im just happy to have a tag and be hunting somewhere. Thats how I look at it!

I'm with you on that as it makes a lot of sense when you are using PPs!

I think 90-2 is probably more your classic antelope country-type hunt. 90-1 butts up to the Wind Rivers, so some of that country may not harbor as many goats. I'm sure either would provide a pretty good hunt though. If nothing, just hunt the strip of 90-1 closest to Hwy 191.

I hunted 48-1 last year. It was a good hunt, and worth 4 points in my opinion. Plenty of territory to cover and a good number of goats with some good ones mixed in...especially if you have the time to hunt them. There are two WMAs out there too where access can be had. Any unit that takes points to draw harbors 80" animals...heck, some that don't require points have them too - you'll just work a lot harder to find them.

I think any unit in Wyoming can produce an 80'' antelope. You just have a much larger area you can search for one in in a unit with lots of public land.

+1 for the thoughts on 2nd choice units! Shoot for the stars with those valuable points, but recognize the obstacles when you just wanna hunt!
