I was an idiot and did not purchase a WY preference point last summer. So if I apply for just one unit tonight (like unit 7) and end up not drawing it (which I know i won't) will I be eligible for a preference point if I choose for them to hold $50 back? If so, will I also be able to purchase a point this coming summer? Thanks for your help.

You should gain a preference point every time you are unsuccessful in drawing your first choice. However, you can not accumulate more than one point per calendar year, so for 2014 you could either apply for the drawing and gain the point that way if unsuccessful in the draw or purchase a pp this summer, not both.

libidilatimmy is right on. If all you want is the point, buy it this summer, since you will not have to pay the additional drawing fee now, and only the preference point fee. If you want a long shot chance to draw, throw your name in the hat now.

Change of plans. I decided to take Umpqua Hunters advice on the long shot. Unit 45-9. I know at best I have a 3% chance of drawing, but I figured the $14 application fee is worth it. I am just now starting to build up my points. Thanks again guys. Good luck.
