I drew a Resident Unit 3 Goat tag.
I have left messages for the appropriate biologist and warden. Spent a couple hours on google earth and have also ordered a bunch of topo maps. I am searching for any info I can get so I can start planning some scouting trips.
I wanted to post here and see if I could get some advice from the members. Anyone been in this unit?
I'm going absolutely nuts!!
Thanks in advance.

I've seen goats up in the sunlight basin drainage. Some lakes up there. Want to say Copper lake. Cool area. Some neat old mining stuff in the area but its' rough country. There is a game and parks office right there in the basin if I remember correctly. I'm sure they can offer some advice.

Okie,
I spoke with the Biologist in that area today and he confirmed your guess. Copper lake. Got a lot of leg work (pardon the pun) to do but making good progress on my search for information.
Thanks for posting.

It is a lot easier to get into Copper Lakes from above them when the road is open to 4-wheelers, take the road that goes into Sulfer Creek as far as you can til where it is closed and hike over the saddle. If I remember right the gate closes September 30th to get in there on 4-wheelers.

Pilot and index peaks are another area to check out. I would try the copper lake area for the easier access. If you park at the mine shaft the lakes are right over the hill. The trail to get on top of the sulfur creek drainage gets really hairy with any kind of weather

Sure would like to get an update on your hunt!
I went up to Guitar Lake. Left out of Silver gate MT and hiked back into WY. Long pack but beautiful country. Saw goats on the pack in and everyday of the hunt. Tricky spot though as you must do your homework as to Yellowstone Park boundaries. It can be very close and the goats really seemed to like that area. I killed a nice Billy on day 5, not a monster but I was thrilled. If you go up to that area be in shape. There area easier areas to hunt goats in that unit but part of the appeal of Guitar Lake was that it was going to be physical. I spoke with a fellow the other day who drew a tag this year and was asking for help...it reminded me that I hadn't posted a result of my hunt on this site. My apologies. Thanks
