That buck surrendered in the Cody area was a buck of a lifetime. Good for the hunter to do the right thing though

Not to diminish the seriousness of some of the situations and enforcement actions, but I honestly got a chuckle over some of the stories; some definite potential for Darwin awards...[emoji38]

That was a pretty good read.

I do think that hunter who turned in the buck is an exceptional guy.

I see folks arguing over deadheads on other forums - claiming ownership of a rack after they made a bad shot and lost the deer - and here we have this guy who unintentionally shoots a monster buck 200 yards on the wrong side of an imaginary line in the mountains saying he couldn't live with himself if he had to look at the deer or rack every day and know he did something wrong. (I wonder what he was using - OnX, Gaia, or what...)

There is hope for humanity! One in a million for sure.

The wardens also played this one well - they tried to make things right so he could/would keep the deer. Exceptional.

Good read-thanks for posting. Hats off to the hunter that turned himself in when he realized where he shot the deer. Not many would do that.

Great read.

I am certainly not surprised to see that trespassing was high on the list of offenses.

I know a preacher who turned himself in 20 years after he found out that he had illegally (killed a red-fox without a furtakers license). He thought he honestly had killed it legally. The wardens would not fine him. They issued him a written warning and pout the animal in their barracks for a display piece.
