After years of conflicting schedules, a group of us (3 maybe 4) with an average of 4 elk points are able to elk hunt together this year. We are looking for a drop camp style outfitter and would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks

I do not believe outfitters do drop camps in WY. Why would they when they have a monopoly on wilderness hunting for non residents?

There are drop camps offered by outfitters in some areas for National forest or BLM area hunts. Think of it basically as camp rental/setup because you won't be taken back into very remote areas but rather camping close to roads. The others above are correct- non-residents can't hunt wilderness unless guided. 4 elk points is basically no mans land as far as points are concerned. You don't have enough to draw the good areas but you would be wasting points on the general tag. To narrow your research, I would look at limited quota draws from last year. Anything that was 100% with 3 points, you should be able to draw with 4 this year. Once you figure out the areas, start your web research into possible services. In your shoes, I would invest the money into nice camping gear instead and then you would have it for future years.

I would disagree about general tag being a waste...at least your hunting and learning an area that you can draw again in 2 years..and so on...and some of my best hunting is in general tag non wilderness for big bulls..general tag is one of the best tags in the state if you know how to hunt it IMO. I have an out of state buddy who will be doing 4 points on a general this year..and it will be far from a waste of points I guarantee

Never said the general tag was a waste but rather they are wasting the two extra points not needed. I agree a general tag can be a great tag if you have your kind of experience but typically guys are not building 4 points up with the thought of using them on a general tag hunt- hence the no mans land comment on points.

Very true. Good point. I was just meaning they could hunt an area this year..learn it and be hunting again in 2 years...but yes I agree entirely 4 points is no man's land...either get rid of them and hunt,or be ready to wait years
