Got a Wisconsin bear tag!
My brother has been running baits for better part of 10 years now, and they have had some very good success, so I'm hoping that will continue. Going to be using a .50 muzzle loader, unless it's raining, then I'll switch over to a rifle. Looking forward to spending time around family, and hopefully bring back some meat!

What part of WI will you be in? If it's Oneida or Vilas County you'll get into some good bruins and you have a 100% chance it'll be pure black.

I'll be in Barron County. I've only ever seen one color phase bear killed in Wisconsin, and my high school friend shot it by Birchwood, a very light blonde bear. There's some with white on the chests around there, and I know people that have shot a fair amount of those too. I'd be happy with a good representation animal, white mark or not. Only got a week, so if their hitting the baits good, maybe wait for a bigger one, if their not hitting the baits very well, well I'm shooting the first one that doesn't have milk on it's lips.

Im from Wisconsin and have had 2 kill tags for bears, have enough points now but I think ill hold off and transfer it to my son in a few years. But, hunting bears in Wisconsin over bait is no easy task in my opinion. WI DNR really has the season figured out. Baits will get hit very hard and then literally a week before season the acorns drop and mushrooms pop and they are all but non existent. Obviously there are a ton of exceptions but that has been my observation every time I had a tag or knew of someone having a tag. Same thing every year. Running with dogs in the northern part has way better odds. But good luck and have fun! I took my black powder last time I had a tag and never saw a bear, pretty dis heartening.

Yes there is. My dad cash crops there, and about half a dozen other relatives have cash crop operations there too. Seems to be the best area to set bait sites, edge of corn fields, with a swamp close.
Got my muzzle loader dailed in last weekend, and I'll shot a few more times before I go. Bears are still sleeping under a blanket of snow there, and I'm ready already!

We go with a guy near Antigo and my Dad got a bear a couple of years ago where a cornfield met a 5 acre woodlot. There wasn't any woods to speak of within a couple of miles of where we got him. He was pretty much spending all his time in the cornfield. Dressed at 346 pounds.
