Winter storm

Looking at the forecast for Wyoming/Colorado. They are calling for 2-3 feet of snow for a good chunk of Southeastern Wyoming. This is the kind of storm that should concern those of us applying for the areas to be impacted. Will follow the storm and try to provide updates from my friends out there.

I's snowing in western Wyo right now but it's not gonna amount to anything that threatens the big game although I am concerned about the hummingbirds I'm watching at my feeder. They must be cold.

But as you mentioned this storm can be worse than all last winters storms combined. The deer, elk, and pronghorn are in their most vulnerable shape right now and this storm could really hurt them.

No bitter temps forecast just down into 20's. Feet of snow in the mountains but we should be ok. Anywhere from 8-15 inches in town. Fawns and calves(elk) haven't hit the ground yet. Should move out by late Friday and warm up quick. We need the moisture here in Laramie but with the leaves out now branches will be down. Wildlife is doing well here so it shouldn't impact them very much unless we get feet down in the valley.

Down here Spring storms are usually wet ones. Snow is usually heavy and wet, yields more water.

Snowing like hell right now, 20 mph wind out of the west and 32 degrees. Forecast was for snow at 9,000', we live at 6800 LOL!

this was this morning. Started dumping like crazy so we just headed out. 50mph winds while in timber wasnt much fun.

Here are a couple of pictures from my deck this AM. Yes it is cold, about 30, but you never know what will happen in the Rockies in the Spring. I have to go to Durango this AM, not looking forward to the drive....50 miles of ice!

Agreed, a foot of snow wouldn't be a huge deal. 3 feet could be. The weather is forecast to warm up fairly quickly so any strong animals would be fine. Anything weak from the winter may not be. As wy-tex mentioned, glad the fawns and calves haven't dropped yet.

About 7 inches so far this morning and still coming down.
We'll be out to check irrigation this weekend, if we can get in, and see how the wildlife fared. Antelope were looking good so far.

Here is the morning update from my mom just outside of Laramie;

"Well we have a good foot so far. I-80 closed eastbound and 287 to Colorado! The lilacs are really hanging."

Supposed to be warm and sunnyish (yes, the weather men and women should use that term!) tomorrow, so I don't think this storm will have much impact. But no doubt this has been a difficult winter for deer on the west side of the state. I understand we lost about 60% of the mature bucks and had near 90% mortality on fawns. Really set Wyoming Mule Deer back after they were just starting to come on.

I live in Douglas, Had probably 3-4 inches of wet heavy snow on my lawn by 7pm last night, rained the day before so soaked the gound before all the wet heavy snow, it's still spitting a little snow now. Hope the animals can hold off another week or 2 before having fawns. Should have plenty of green grass around to eat for most of the summer. Just like wy-tex said here on the eastern side of WY it was a fairly mild winter. I have already seen some nice antelope bucks going to and from work this past month. Lots of them around in areas 26,27,29. So if anyone is looking for 2nd choice goat tag one of these areas would be a good one to consider. Will be good quality and quantity this year.

5 -7 inches here last night. Deer are out running around having fun in the snow. It's heavy and very wet.

Everything is fine, they've had green grass to eat down here for 2 months, their all fatter than heck.

Still snowing this morning. 10+ inches in Laramie yesterday and more to come. Good wet snow settling in pretty nice.
I-80 and 34 are still closed. Saw quite a few snowed in folks last night while out celebrating the music of Chris Cornell.

We got about 15 plus inches were I live in SE WY. It was warm yesterday and melted the majority of the snow. Won't hurt the animals they've a pretty easy winter unlike the western part of the state.
