i am trying to find a description of the wilderness area boundaries in elk unit 41 in the bighorns. I do not have a true topo map but looking at my wyoming gps chip and mytopo map it does not show any wilderness in unit 41 or 45. i know that is not correct. I have looked on the game and fish site but all i can find there is unit descriptions but not a wilderness area boundary line. Im guessing it is a imaginary line or a creek or mountain ridge? trying to plan a bow hunt there next fall and researching units

Mine is the older hunting gps maps but it's the wyoming version. I'll check out my settings

I had my detail to high and it covered it up. Thanks. Considerably more forest in unit 45 than 41. Guess that is why it takes 7 points instead of 5 points to draw.

I believe 45 needs more PPs than any of the units that are considered in the main BigHorn Mountain area because IMHO it's the best there is, at least for an elk bow hunt in September during the rut when the bulls are bulging like crazy. This year they were really sounding off in 45 the second and third weeks and then slowed down a little toward the end of the month like they usually do, but it was still good.

The wilderness boundary should be shown on most GPS units these days, but there is no distinct boundaries in the field. On some of the major trails you will see a sign indicating you are entering the wilderness but that is about it.

I think you were trying to meet up with one of my buddies this past year Topgun...? He got hammered by the early snowstorm in September, that created crunchy snow for a few days. Just heard the MRS downgraded the unit this year, probably for the best ;)

I've got a google earth overlay with all the wilderness areas in CO and WY if your interested PM me, that goes to all of you if your looking for something like this to add to your research free of charge just hit me up. I created it when I was in college and taking a GIS class. I don't think I added in the areas West and South of Jackson but I have a good majority of them. I also have Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Montana so if you guys are wanting to save some money over buying the OnXmaps overlays just to have the wilderness boundaries I'm more than willing to share.
