I'm not sure what jarhead used but there are all kinds of adapters that can be purchased so that you can connect your smartphone to a spotting scope.

I believe Meopta makes a real good adapter called Meopix. You will need to know your eye piece diameter then you can order one.

I bought the Kowa iPhone adapter. Comes with eyepieces for my spotter and swarovision binos. Cost like $50. I know the outdoorsmans just came out with a new one that looks really nice as well. I tried the meopta one and it would not work.
