I've never hunted out west before, so I made a plan a few years ago with some buddies and family members to hunt antelope in WY this fall. Unfortunately, all four of them couldn't go for one reason or another. I decided I'd try and pull a 2nd choice tag and go by myself. I pulled the tag and will be going solo. At least this way, we all still have our points. I told them if my hunt goes well, we'll all try and go next year on 2nd choice tags. If it goes poorly, I told them I'm burning my 5 points on a good unit.
I've asked just about everyone I know, and none of them are interested enough in committing the time and money necessary to start hunting out west limited entry tags . I'd definitely prefer not to hunt alone, but if this first solo western hunt goes well I may start planning more. Might be time to start applying in New Mexico. Good luck to everybody - hopefully your dedication pays off.
