Which unit for elk?

I'm trying to decide which area to put in for between the s. cache and the central mountains nebo units for archery elk this year. I live in cache valley so the s. cache unit is my back yard, so i would have more time to scout and hunt, but i really want to hunt an area where i can backpack in and get away from roads and trails and thats hard to find here. I have been in the nebo loop area 4 or 5 years ago with a friend that drew a rifle tag we got into some elk and i loved the country. Nebo is also easier to draw, and it seems like there is more area to get away from everything. I'm also not super worried about where i would have a better chance at killing a monster (I would be happy with anything over 300''), more just actually finding a good number of elk. Also according to mrs the success rate is better in the s. cache unit. Any info, comments, or first hand knowledge is greatlly appreciated. Thanks!

Depending on how many points you have built up I would stay away from these units. I know that the quality of bulls as well as the number of elk on the Nebo unit has gone down dramatically over the last few years. They are just killing to many elk off of this unit to keep up the quality it once had. If I were you I would try putting in for the Central Mountains Manti unit for Archery elk. There are still a lot of elk on this unit and there are some great bulls to be seen despite what others might say. I have spent a lot of time on this unit and I had the archery tag a few years ago. Despite being listed as a green chip unit in the MRS I believe that it deserves a higher ranking, it is certainly a better hunt than the blue chip Fishlake unit. If archery hunting is the direction you want to take give this unit a try, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the info. I know the s. cache unit has been going down hill the last few years but i had no idea about the nebo unit, so thanks big time for that. I'm interested in the manti unit, could you give me a starting point to start doing some research? Thanks again.
