Hey fellow archers. I'm curious how your season was this year in Colorado. I hunted early this year for the first time (9-6 thru 9-13) in GMU 25, 28 & 231. This by far has been my most challenging year in the Elk woods. It's the first year I never herd a bugle or even got into elk and put over sixty miles on the boots. I hunted at the tree lines at elevations between 10,300 in some areas and up to 11,600 in other areas. I found that many water holes that were on maps had dried up and found most grasses in the upper elevations & meadows that were in the open to extremely dry and crunchy. We also hunted low at around 9000-9600 and along streams & springs but just didn't see much sign this year compared to years past. Just wanted to see what others experienced this year in the woods. Hopefully, many of you were able to put some table fare in your freezers. It was still another amazing trip in the elk woods despite our difficulties and look forward to returning next year.

BTW----I'd love to see your pics if you harvested! send away.

I was chasing a big bull and got under cut by some other hunters. Public land what can you do? I found the season to be very difficult as well. It started with decent weather and then turned into an oven. Due to child care I could only hunt the evenings. The only morning I got was the end of the muzzle loader season and I had to rush into my spot. I bugled right at shooting light and had a answer right away. I hit the cow calls and just waited. After about 5 minutes I saw antlers coming at me. One more cow call and he walked to 35 yards. A broadside shot and he took one step. For a season that was extremely difficult I fell very lucky to fill an archery tag. On a side note, I shot this bull about 25 yards from a bull I shot last year. Extra lucky and I guess I like that spot.

The phot is is the elk pic thread.
