Where to move for best hunting and fishing experience

I think living in Laramie would be terrible. No offense to Sligers choice but the hunting over there isn't as good, unless he's got an in for Laramie peak. Knew a guy that dated a rich girl from wheatland and had huge ranch to hunt

You're not reading my posts very well, I'm telling them to stay away. I will agree our deer herd over here is horrible, a ton of private private to deal with for antelope. But I get to hunt elk 30 minutes from my house every year. The hunting over by The Rock is far better, but can't seem to ever draw a good antelope tag, or elk. But I'll continue to apply over there every year.

My vote would be Bozeman or Missoula. But hey I'm a flyfisherman to and the water around Bozeman is awesome. The town is big enough and the scenery is awesome...and the Simms store is there. Hunting I'm sure is good especially if your not scared of Griz but I am. I spent 3 summers in West Yellowstone and one day want to return to spend all my summers. Would love to hunt around there but have heard too many bear stories from the locals.

Why doesn't Idaho ever get mentioned in the "best outdoors state" question? I've only ever hunted there once, but had a heck of a good time and saw plenty of deer/elk. Still no preference points to worry about and draw odds for Moose/Sheep are about as good as it gets. Salmon run that far inland and oh her fishing can't be too bad. Certainly Pocatello to Idaho Falls isn't excessively nice - but some great small towns in the central to north of the state.

As a whole, it seems the state is somewhat underrated or under mentioned. Any picks for best small town in the state?

Idaho is high on my list for consideration. Boise, Lewiston, Coeur de L... all big enough. Only as state I haven't hunted. Little Hollywood puts Montana out. Too pricey and deer genetics aren't very good. Mediocre.

Pierre, SD... Best upland game hunting in the world, world class walleye and pike with numbers of smallies, often world class waterfowl hunting, all the deer hunting you can handle, fair antelope hunting all within a few miles of town. Weakness you'll have to travel to Wyoming, Montana, or Colorado for a "close" elk.

I agree with ssliger , Wyoming is harsh and unforgiving place at times . Having visited Oregon many times to hunt , fish , clam and crab , I can say that Oregon has a lot to offer that WY doesn't . As for as spouses , Well , the shopping they like is non existent in Wy . I can say that Wy is a nice VISIT and a place were non-residents can build up points and be able to harvest a pretty good animal , as a resident you don't have the option to buildup points on most game animals .Just my 2 cents .
