Is there a map somewhere of where the species lines are between Mule Deer, Black Tail and the other sub species of deer. I'm in BC and the government breaks deer into Mule and Whitetail. I've taken some deer on the pacific islands off the coast, but I'm not sure what to call them.

In CA, as the Fish and Game see it, I-5 is more or less the line that breaks up Blacktails form the hybread deer. You will not see true mulies until you hit the X zones that border NV. Some of the wilderness areas near the coast hold some of the best country for blacktails in CA. Well unless you have a lot of money, and want to hunt a private ranch in a ground blind /treestand 100 yards from the truck, and say that you hunt REAL HARD. Sorry, this is a touchy subject for me!

Aren't they called "sitka" blacktails?
There are two species of Blacktails......the Columbian Blacktail and the Sitka Blacktail. The blacktails found in CA, OR, and WA are Columbian Blacktails.
