As a still hunter who hunts nothing buy high timber. My shots are close, and I don't need a long range gun. I used a 30-30 for most of my hunting career. (60 years) A few years ago I started to use a muzzleloader. It's all I use now. Even if I hunt the rifle seasons.

Old Hunter, I like your style. Still hunting seems to be becoming a lost art. Seems like everyone wants to spot from mile away and shoot as far as possible these days. That is a good appraoch for some, but there's nothing like being surrounded by a heard of elk in the thick timber. Long range shooting is a style I just can't get into, its very impressive what good equipment can do though!

Thank you. It's what my dad taught me in the 50's, and I liked it so much I've never done anything else.

Weapon of choice is my bow and death tipped arrow with screaming bull at 15 yds. However, I also have other tools and as others on here have said, I just want to be hunting. I shoot a .338-378 Weatherby that has accounted for 3 elk, in the open country. It throws a 225 grain Triple shock really fast and flat and has been known to nueter a tick at six-hundred yards! For the close work in the timber I have a .35 Whelen spitting 225 trophy bondeds that is super sweet to carry and speaks death pure and simple.

Just put together a Remington Model 700 XCR2 .300 win mag. I put a Weaver 3x15 50mm Tactical FFP scope on it. I can't wait to fill a few tags with it this year.

I just saw Denny Austed, who shot the spider bull, on T.V at an auction in SLC and I think he paid over 200K for the govenors tag for a mule deer. Did this just happen in 2012 or did I see an old show? This brings me to my question. What the $&%@ is a .300 Austed II ? This is what he shot the spider bull with.

Yeah,

Good ol' Denny. How many governor's tags is that for him? I just don't feel too good about somebody literally buying the world record.

He is quite the wildcatter.
