What week in sept should hunt in NM ?

If it was you , what week (7-10 days) would you hunt in sept for elk ?
I was thinking the 3rd week would be the peak but most of my hunting will be over water source , would it be better then to go pre rut ?

It depends a lot where you will be hunting, but I would say go earlier if you are just going to sit over water. Warmer weather should put them to water earlier and more consistently.

Hunting unit 12 . The guy that I got the tag from and that has been on the prop states that I should come like the sept 4-13. ( pre rut )
He stated that after the rut gets going will be hard to get on a big one because will be cowed up. Would be better to hunt water early and late and spot and stalk during day. Any input on this guys ? Will they come to water during shooting light ?

Private or public?
If private that's exactly what I'd do.
If public, I'd do the same thing but go as early as possible. less yayhooos messing with the elk.
