Back when we killed them by the 100's we learned to only shoot BBB. We killed some at some long ranges too. We only used steel. I'm sure the new Hevi Shot loads are probably much better. I think the Black Cloud work pretty good too. When they first forced us to steel shot we all went to 10 Gauges. In those days we could only find the old Mossberg bolt actions that we had to get rechoked for the steel because they only had full chokes. Then as the 10's became more in vogue we went to the Browning BPS with the screw in chokes that was quite a step up. We killed a lot of geese with those cannons. We were on a good spot one day with a friend who had one of the new "at that time" Benelli Super Black Eagle 3.5" guns. We were killing lots of geese and he couldn't kill anything, so I took his Benelli and let him use the " Magic 10". It turned out that I still killed just as many as with my 10, and hes till couldn't hit a thing! I decided then that the way lighter Benelli was the way. I found a Super Black Eagle 2 a few years later on Gunbroker for a good deal and never looked back. Still got that big 10 though, I tried packing it for turkeys a while back and couldn't believe how damn heavy that thing was!
Sounds exactly my experience. I used to shoot several 100 honkers a season with my BPS 10 ga. Gave it to my son and I have a Benelli semi auto. in 3 1/2 12 ga. I shoot a lot of 3" 12 ga too. Just depends on how they are flying and decoying.

Couldn't agree more with you Colorado cowboy. I love my bps and it knocks geese down. I shot mine for 12 years until I went with a Benelli m2 which only comes in a 3 inch and I wouldn't change. Put a patternmaster choke in any gun and it will blast holes in the birds if there close enough.

I shoot 3" 2s most of the time because we get both ducks and geese over the decoys. They do the job just fine. If it's late and we're only hunting geese I'll go to BBs, but you won't have any problem taking em down with 2s as long as they're within a reasonable range.
