What do I need to expect on my first ever hunt Western Big Game hunt. I will be hunting In the Teton National Forest area.

First off, you have picked some great country to explore. What kind of hunt are you planning? Do you intend to backpack in, or basecamp it?

Just make sure you stay out of the Wilderness areas and be prepared for Grizzlies. Nonresidents can't hunt the wilderness areas in Wy without a guide or local resident being with you.
Really no experience. I'm an experienced hunter in the South and Midwest (Iowa,Ill) but no backpack experience.

Here is a packing list I made for my backpack with the weights. I created this last year for my first elk hunt last Sept in Montana. Some items are personal preference and some are necessary. More experienced hunters may have advice on if it needs to be tweaked. Hope this helps!

I would consult your guide/outfitter for a gear list as well as what to expect. If you are paying an outfitter, they will likely charge a little more to add the bear hunt on your elk hunt. Only advice I would offer is to really get in the best shape you can. The mountains are very tiring to us flat land people.....

Depending on who u r hunting with and where..just ask the outfitter about if its worth buying a bear tag...we always advise our Hunters to focus on the elk, mainly because we rarely see black bears...to many grizzlies!!
