Will be coming west in about one month to hunt mule deer again. Have heard the weather has been fairly wet in spring and early summer. For those of you living in the area is it still a nice wet summer with plenty of green forage available? We have had to alter our hunting in the past due to very dry conditions. Just wondering what to expect. Thanks

Yeah, so far so good, knock on wood, we have still been getting thundershowers coming through and things are still green from Sheridan to the South Dakota border. There was some flooding in Sheridan and Buffalo, and I think that is finally starting to dry out. So anyway the east side of the Big Horns is still green. Hopefully the tall grass doesn't become fire danger, but it hasn't been super hot either. The west side of the Big Horns tends to be a little drier, there is a little bit of a rain shadow desert effect from the mountains. The moisture coming in from the south gets stopped on the east side or the weather from the north gets kindof pushed around to the east side of the Big Horns because of the mountains to the north. Not a meteorologist, just kindof hearsay I guess. I haven't really paid attention to that west side weather I guess.

I'll be up in the mountains, west slope, the weekend of Aug 8 for a scouting run. I'll post on what we see then.
What should we expect for temps day/night then?

West side of the Bighorns is very dry like usual. We didn't get any rain in April, got dumped on in May, then back to bone dry now. June/July combined we've gotten a 1/4" of rain. I'm speaking for Greybull. Quite a few storms have moved south over Worland so they've gotten a lot more moisture that way. Bald Mountain, Hunt Mountain, etc., obviously won't be nearly as dry as the actual towns of Shell/Greybull but the grass up there won't be anything like the country a little further to the east.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the western slopes are dry and the eastern slopes are moist. Correct? I'll be hunting in the northern most Bighorns.
