Weather alerts in the backcountry

Anybody have experience with Sea Crane radios? I remember hearing adds for them all the time on AM radio and they sound pretty nifty. In the adds they couched them as a last line of communication if the power grid really does take a crap (that might have more to do with where they were advertising though). In any case, maybe they are a good option for using in the back country?

C Crane are great recievers, night time AM radio reception is amazing on those.

I've always used my HAM radio, had my general license for years and years. I carry a small dual band (HT), has a wide range reciever, also picks up the NOAA stations and can transmit a SOS on two frequencies...just in case. You can get your technicians license pretty easy and that opens up a whole new word!

I'm with the 2 above with the Garmin Rino. I have a 655T and an older one 550hxc (i think) and they have the radio and the 655T even has a radar screen on it. It was nice when they were having fires out there a few years back as it updated that too. I'm sure they have their limitations too, but we were about an Hour from Salmon, Id. and got a good signal and radar maps. If you need a GPS or thinking of one and can swing the finances these are Nice units, especially if your partners have them too.
