Looking at the maps it looks like the general tag is Spike/cow only. But I keep reading on other forums that Wasatch is an any elk unit from Aug-16-Sept 3rd (last years dates) anyone know anything about this?

***Edit- yes I read (skimmed) the reg booklet but I couldn't find anything.

The any elk is a limited entry draw tag. The general hunt is spike only. Utah does this for several units.

On the limited units (Wasatch) the only way you can hunt big Bulls is to draw a limited entry tag. All other tags are spike only.

As others have said, many of the limited entry units have spike/cow hunts that occur on them.what you listed sounds like the archery spike/cow dates from last year. They close a week earlier than the limited entry archery elk tags do...

Pretty sure it's all the units now that have spike/cow hunts on them. Use to be a few of the top tier units didn't, but they've changed it now.

So, Utah has mixed hunts. As stated, most LE units offer general season hunters to shoot a spike or cow while the LE tag holders hunt mature bulls. On the Book Cliffs the general hunter can only hunt spikes, not a cow. And the one that people are referring to that the OP asked about I believe is the Wasatch Front general season area.
The wasatch front is a special area for bowhunters and is found within the LE Wasatch unit. Within those boundaries a bowhunter can hunt for any elk during the entire general archery and extended archery season.
If you have questions about a specific area, PM me or post it up and I will confirm it for ya.
