I have killed lots of deer & elk using it as a shooting platform too. As far as I am concerned, multitasking at it's best.
Good idea CC. The trekking poles can be used as shooting sticks too. There is a nifty way to connect the wrist straps together which makes a nice "X" shape to use as "shooting sticks". I've never tried it but it seems like it would work pretty good.

well finally pulled the trigger on the black diamond alpine carbon corks. I have always got a bog pod shooting tripod with me that I also use for my spotting scope when in the backpack. I also use it as a crutch some and agree multitask whenever you can. just think it is about time I get a little more stable as I get older. will still pack the bog pod for spotting scope work and to shoot off of when prone off the pack is not a possibility. Thanks for all your help everyone.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1432347589.470057.jpg I've used these cheap ones for 5 years and they've got a lot of life left in them. They collapse down nicely and have the spring shock. I always wanted some for when I am packing in heavy but I didn't want to spend a lot on glorified ski poles. Just another option to throw out there for you. You can get them on Amazon for $25ea or they go on sale at Cabelas for about the same price. Brand is Trekker in case the phone pic doesn't come in clear.

The Black Diamond Ergo Corks arrived today..very quick service from REI. They are definitely quality. I tried the X looped straps at various heights, and it does make for a rock solid bipod. I had tried that with my previous cheapies, but the straps were too loose and the grips would slip.
