Video Editing Software

Hey folks. Posted this in another forum but wanted to bring it here to another audience.

Which video editing software are you guys having luck with? I have a Canon HD camcorder that records in AVCHD and am getting into digiscoping with my point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix LX3 that also records HD video (unsure of the format). I'd like to hear the pros and cons of several packages if you've used them. Thanks!

I use Sony Vegas. It's a more advanced software, but easy to use once you get the hang of it. Along with the software I purchased DVD's on how to edit and render a video. All my DVD's and Videos have come out excellent!

I've worked at Apple Inc since 1987. I've been blessed to have had access and to have been exposed and introduced to some awesome products in my stay here. I'm coming on 25 years now with the company.

I use Apple's Final Cut Pro and iMove on the Apple platform. I can't say I've tried anything else out there to compare it to, so I don't have much feedback on anything else. I'm a bit biased working at the company but it is pretty awesome software.

+1. I use Sony Vegas Pro. I wouldn't recommend it if you get confused or shell shocked by a magnitude of buttons and options. It is overwhelming at first, but once you get it figured out you can literally do anything. Awesome program but also expensive.

+1 for the Final Cut Pro/Mac platform... It is PRO grade and designed for editing professionals. Most Hollywood movie producers use the FCP/Color/Soundtrack Pro suite... It is truely amazing and is much more affordable nowdays in comparison to when I purchased it at $2k....

Graylight, I just wanted to say I've seen some of the film work on your website. Some pretty impressive work, filming, editing and hunting. Thanks for doing what you do. The high mountain backcountry hunts are awesome and always by far are my favorite to watch.

Like Graylight mentions, a lot of Hollywood uses the Final Cut Pro suite. Depending what you want to produce the options are almost endless in what one can do with effects, transitions, sound work and color correction. For the creative person, there are so many things software, filming and sound can do to help make the films almost come alive and give it that emotion of the experience. It's gotten so much easier to edit and more user friendly from when I started using it years ago. It can also become very, very addicting. It's just all pretty cool stuff.

Whatever you all use or choose to use, I just hope you all will have fun with it and capture those moments and experiences well. Happy filming everyone.

Final Cut Pro X is awesome. Takes a little getting used to.. especially if you have never had an apple, but they are absolutely worth the money. Without a doubt.

I used to use Pinnacle a few years ago and got along pretty well with it. I'm not up to date on any of the other current programs.

I use Pavtube for any file format conversion projects, then move everything to Pinnacle Studio 15 for editing. A lot of what has been mentioned above can be rather expensive. I think I have about $95 in both software packages together and they will let you do just about anything you want for non-TV production purposes.
