Venomous Bees!!!

So I was down in NC chattin it up with my bear hunting buddies and they were telling me some tall tales of venomous bees. Story goes they kill rattlesnakes, very often-in fact we killed 2 the day I was around the house- and then the bees find the dead snakes and eat em. The venom from the snakes gets on the bees and when you get stung you get a small dose of venom.


As luck would have it, I leaned into a creek to wash up and layed right on a ground bee nest. I got tagged once in the bicep and within 20 minutes my whole arm was red and swollen. I'm not even sorta allergic to bees, hornets, or anything. I get stung prolly 20 times a year and never had a reaction like that. So I guess Venomous bees are REAL....watch out!!


Anyone else heard of such a thing?

I have heard about but don't know if its true. I try to bury rattle snakes heads if I kill them.

Negative Ghost Rider! All bees are vegetarian. They all eat pollen and nectar. Some make honey from nectar and others don't.

i dont know about the rattle snake venom, but i see yellow jackets on dead animals all the time

Maybe they were referring to ground hornets or something? I just saw it was buzzing yellow and it hurt!

Sometimes I think the reaction has something to do with how close to a nerve or blood vein you are stung. I rarely have much of a reaction to bee stings, but one time I was stung by a honey bee in the foot and it swelled up huge. I now assume I must have been stung right in a vein or something. That's a non-medical assumption though.

So did they tell you the tale before you got stung or after.....

I can explain either ....

Bee sting after story = psychosomatic: they suggested it and your body was fooled into the symptoms
Bee sting before = they took advantage and pulled your leg !!!!!!
Good friends aye? Should have been driving you to the hospital instead of pulling your leg

Seriously bee stings are no joke and folks do acquire allergies as they get older.
Keep an eye on it.

I heard that old wives tale growing up.
They might have believed it although it is really just a myth.
Remember the one about a snake not dying till sunset after you cut it's head off?

If you do a really good job with your shotgun, there will be no snake head for the bees to molest. Problem solved.

Not so sure about bees ingesting the snake venom, and supercharging their stings. Does not sound scientifically possible. In order for this to work, bees would have to be immune to snake venom.

haha story was before the sting...about an hour before. They did offer to take me to a hospital but I didn't let them. swelling went down in 6 hrs.

IDK the science behind it either...but it didn't sound right. but it hurt like it was right! ;-)

Those are some keeper hunting buddies

That sounds like a sci-fi network movie.........
No offense but I nominate MusketMan for the lead with Wood tick and IKIC as the bear hunting buddies.

This would be better than "Deliverance" which by the way was filmed just down the road.
I am legal to poke fun because I grew up there.........
