I've been chasing the dog's tail on that early high mt. rifle hunt too. I ended up with a MZL tag instead. I would actually prefer the later start date if I ever draw the rifle tag, except that the mzl season has a significantly more hunters in it. Next year is a Wyoming year for me, but had figured on drawing in CO in 16. I hate to burn 9 pts. on a MZL tag.
I'm kind of confused on if you drew that tag this year or not? According to the cpw 2014 stats there are two early rifle deer hunts for unit 16 and with 9 nr points you could have drawn either of them with ease?

To clarify. I did not apply for area 16, but was referring to the next time that I will apply in Colorado in 2016. For the 2014 draw, I had 7 points. I gained a point when I didn't draw, and will buy one next year; hence the 9 points for 2016. I expect a reduction in the NR allocation because it looks like there was three years where it took 6 points for a resident to draw. That means the NR quota goes from 35% to 20%. So, by then perhaps even 9 points won't do it.

That makes more sense I'm not so confused anymore. Those points are getting pretty "expensive" good thing colorado is one of the cheaper states for points. Hopefully it works out for you in '16.
