I have a 38-1 tag for unit 38 this year and have talked to a warden and biologist and neglected to ask either if the Forest Service leaves any of their "improved campgrounds" open for the October elk season? An older friend will be tagging along to enjoy the country and having a vaulted toilet would be nice for him but not necessary. If not, any suggestions on areas within 38 to set up with two wall tents?
Thanks

I don't believe you'll find much of anything like you're asking about once you leave the main highways up in 38. There are fewer facilities up there than about anywhere in the BigHorns. There are plenty of places to set up a camp like you're talking about and you'll probably have to improvise your own potty up there!

Thanks .06-
I figured as much bit thought I'd ask to make sure. 0n another note, do you have any advice for which portion of the unit to hunt if and when snow flies? Should I start out in the western portion if it is dry and move in an eastern direction once snow hits? I know the zone is real weather dependent but was hoping to have a general game plan from folks that are in the know.
Thanks

You can view and print the FS MVUM (motor vehicle use map) for the forest you're planning on camping in and it will show where there are any improved camping facilities.
