Upland and waterfowl hunting near sacramento?

I recently moved to sacramento (orangevale) for college and now that I have finished with my first full year I want to start getting into upland and waterfowl hunting. The problem is I have no idea where to start and I dont know anybody that can show me the ropes.
Any advice? areas, public lands, tips, info
Anything helps!

Just an unexperienced young hunter trying to learn all about this sport!

You live in a great place for waterfowl and pheasant hunting.
Look to the north a little.Sacramento wildlife refuge ,Delevan refuge and then up towards Chico you have Greylodge.Plenty of opportunities.Get on the DFG website and look to reserve some dates at any of the public areas.
Some are first come first serve but a lot of them require a reservation.
If you can work for dates later in the season(after December 15).The weather has usually cooled by then the birds move better.
what school are you attending?My son is a Junior at Sacramento State.

When buying your hunting license make sure to add;
Harvest info stamp(HIP)
Upland game bird stamp
Ca duck stamp
You must purchase your federal stamp separately from post office and attach to license

Apply with reservations 17 days prior to hunt day desired for each area.

Lots of stuff to buy between now and duck season, waders, decoys etc.

Good luck, there's a lot of fun to be had!

Another thing you might want to do is look up your local Ducks Unlimited chapter. Usually they have a local rep and he might give you some good info too. Also the local trap & skeet clubs should have some shotgun hunters too.
