Hi guys-
New guy to Wyoming. Been out west a bunch, never hunted Wyoming, hunt in WI for just about everything also. This year we decided to try Wyoming for Mule Deer, we drew 4 tags for unit D. We have our regular pack of 3 cousins and an uncle, uncle is getting up in age and is probably in the last few years of mountain hunting. Mule deer in Wyoming was his choice. So, being new to Wyoming, I am confused and excited.... but mostly confused. Colorado has lots of info available, I find it harder to decipher Wyoming's info. Here are my questions for any that can answer some... all... any...
We usually take a horse for Elk... we wont have our horse or horse trailer, so we are probably going to take a pop-up camper this year. In Colorado where we usually go, you have to be within certain places to camp. In the medicine bow area in units 75 or 76 I see camp sites, but I hear people talking about just camping along forest roads. Is this the case? We can just roll out camp where we find a place?
Road access. In the medicine bow area, are road passable in October? A standard truck will make it to a camp spot off the beaten path ok? With a trailer?
Terrain... as mentioned I have my uncle which is getting up in years, he can hike pretty well, but I dont need him climbing really steep terrain. Would one place be more suitable in these areas over another or are they most rolling hills?
The million dollar question... which can be PM'd to me if anyone is willing to share wisdom/knowledge.... is there any areas that he would have better luck getting that Wyoming buck checked off his list in? Places where there are a million guys or you have been that people are constantly buzzing around on 4 wheelers that you would recommend we avoid? We aren't 4 wheeler hunters, we like quiet, hiking, and not disturbing people. We would like to be around like minded folks if we have to be.
Anyway, forecasts look pretty good for the year, just need to find them. We will have a few days beforehand to scout a bit, but otherwise I am reading maps until my eyes bleed and trying to learn as much as I can from people who have been there and have some wisdom to share.
