I see online that Utah's national forest campsites in the Uintas seem to all close prior to the Any bull Elk season, at least in the wilderness areas. So what do Elk hunters generally do as to camping during this season when hunting the High Unitas?
Are there places where I could drive into with the risk of not being able to get my truck out till sping? I only ask as when I was hunting somewhere in Colorado years ago at higher elevation there was that risk.

There is always that risk of parking your truck for 6 months, slim but it is always there. My rule of thumb is to never camp downhill from the main road. That and a set of chains should get you out if there is a good storm.

As for where to camp, find yourself a spot off of the road and pitch your tent. Most National Forest allow you to travel 100 feet or so off of the road to camp. You can check that with the Ashley National Forest.

Hikers and fishermen do it all the time. There is a fairly good trail system up there just for that purpose.

It has been more years that I care to remember since I have been up there but you might want to check with the National Forest office up there to see if there are any restrictions on where you can and can not park.
