Unit 86

Looking for a little help in regards to the Hayden Pass fire. Had some plans to hunt just outside of Coaldale. I understand that there is a pretty decent fire that just started out there. Could anyone help me pinpoint where this fire is trending (outside its current range) By the looks of things, Plan A and Plan B are already out the door and with the way this fire is burning, plan C might be out the door also. Thanks

Here is a map of the fire area.

Don't cross off a area just because a fire went through it. There will be islands of unburnt forest and if they get it handled quick enough and get some rain in the area the brush will be coming up by hunting season. And deer and elk just love those fresh green grasses and brush.

We are not crossing it off yet and have our fingers crossed for some rain. Just hoping the thing will not back burn through some of the areas. Based on the info from the rangers out there it sounds like the area needed a good burn. Hopefully what has burnt will stay that way and they can knock the thing down some. Then we should be able to go with our original plan. We were just worried it might push more hunters into areas because of what has burnt.

Fire has burned 16,414 acres and is only 50% contained. I would guess it will still be a long time before the area is re-opened for recreational use.
