Unit 77 type 2

As my wife and I have 0 point for the next fall, I'm looking at the 77 type 2 (on or within 1/2 mile of irrigated land) Since there are not much private land on 77, I was wondering if could be hard to find irrigated land and get permission to hunt on it.
Any info or advise will be much appreciated.

Pull it up in Bing maps and you can see the irrigated stuff for the most part. Permission is another matter. The Game dept has the local offices by species in the regs for this year so call them and ask for antelope LO's for unit 77 and they should be able to provide that.

I dont know that area but the type 2, on or within 1/2 mile of irrigated land tags are generally to control antelope numbers and reduce crop damage so land owners would probably be more receptive to letting you hunt on those tags then others. Good luck!

Does it define how long it has to have been irrigated. Will a water bottle do? ;)

I've often wondered if there is enough public near irrigated land to make that worth while.

You cant just go dump a bottle of water out but if you took a nice watering can and watered a 3 foot square every day for 2 months it might qualify! LOL I have not researched these hunts but I think it would be mostly a private land hunt.

I live in 77 and my wife gets the type 2 tag every year. That license used to be private land only. Thankfully, they changed it to within a half mile. That makes much more sense. There's plenty of BLM bordering irrigated private and the access to it is great (it's not landlocked). Despite what some other people may say, landowners are also good about letting people on. If you draw, G&F should send you a long list of names, addresses and phone numbers. This is a pretty easy hunt as the antelope are very predictable. But then again, I watch them all summer long. You're obviously limited to where you can hunt so don't expect to shoot anything huge. I think it's a great idea for non-residents with no points so you are definitely on to something. I've tried telling several of my NR friends about it but they won't listen. My wife got this one behind the house a couple years ago:

114-2 is another area with the same requirement that you might look into and it's loaded with antelope all up and down the private lands near Worland along the BigHorn River. Since you're talking about a husband/wife hunt and may want to stay in a motel or campground, Worland would be perfect and just a few minutes from any of the places you would hunt.

Very nice antelope, looks like he has some good mass. Your wife is a very pretty young lady also! Is most of the land irrigated alfalfa?
