Not looking for areas, just general information. Brother in law and I drew this year and will be there for the opener. I thought this area was in the kill zone for a couple of winters ago but the tag numbers seem to have stayed the same. I've hunted 74 right next to it and had a fun hunt, but 74 has had drastic tag reductions while it seems like 72 had 0? Are there that many antelope there or did that area not get hit with winter kill 2-3 years ago? I expect lots of traffic opening week but luckily the season opens on a Monday so we will try to get away from people if we can. Hes more interested in fishing anyways so hell probably try to tag the first buck he sees. I will be a little more selective.

I assume your talking about Wyoming and antelope tags. I have hunted both 72 & 74. For 20 years or so 72 has had a lot more tags. I also has more private land and I have always thought that was why. The last time I drew a 74 buck tag (about 5 or 6 years ago) I saw fewer animals that I have ever saw. There were less doe antelope than I have ever seen there. Winter kill was the reason and the tags never have been what they were before that winter.

Yes, sorry Wyoming antelope unit 72. With 72 being right next to 74, I would’ve thought 72 tag numbers would have been reduced as well.

72 does have more private which makes it tougher to get the access needed to be at manageble objective. The private land also tends be the best habitat which helps navigate the tough winters.
