I purchased a non-resident general elk tag do to me not having my residency yet. I am also working in North Dakota as of right now, so with that the closest elk hunting to me is down by Ekalaka. There are two things that I am asking for some help on here. One is the tag itself, on the Montana FWP website it says;
Antlerless Elk. Only valid outside Natl Forest Administrative boundary. Boundary maps available at:
Forest Office -Ashland; FWP - Miles City; Broadus and license providers in area and on FWP website

So does this mean I cant harvest an elk on forest service land? Second, does anyone have tips on where to concentrate my efforts, or what doors to knock on. Im not expecting any hand outs, but a little help can never hurt. Thanks for your time and good luck this season!

Yep, thats what it means, you need to have drawn a special permit to rifle hunt on Natl. Forest service ground and you can only shoot cows during the general season with a general tag on private ground or state, blm land. I suggest you do more planning on your next Montana hunt.

Thanks for your help, didn't need the attitude though. You try deciphering all of the in's and out's when it comes to hunting regs, especially when it's your first time hunting in the state. I m a husker fan as well so go big red. Hope you have a great season. Cheers!
