Alright, I waited a while but I'm dying for some info! I drew 67 3rd season with my brother and it's our first good mule deer tag. So, any info will be greatly appreciated, what to expect-terrain,weather, deer population, just everything! I don't care if you've just driven thru the unit before, I wanna hear about it! Thanks in advance, and sorry if I keep asking all summer!!

I went out there to scout for someone on the forum. This was last year. My wife and I found two shooters in the first thirty minutes after going in. We went in off hwy 114. I was lucky enough to draw the unit with 9 points and killed a 180 opening day. The 180 was the 3rd smallest deer I had seen or knew about, one was a 200 that a reputable hunter told me about. He gave me gps on him. I went and looked but never hunted that deer. Lots of traffic close to him. A 190 I had seen the evening before opening, I hunted opening morning and just could not find him or his doe. I did see his doe after tagging out then I figured out what he had done. I don't think numbers are high but most of the deer I saw were good ones. Probably more deer around Powderhorn but I hunted the hwy 114 side. I have never liked hunting sage but deer use it. Weather should be cool but nice. Terrain is easy if you are hunting the right place. I like seeing quackers. Make sure you get a good one

Stay mobile. It's a huge unit and you can spend a week, ruin a pair of boot soles and not see anything worth mentioning except a lot of pretty country.

If you want to take abuse off of your regular vehicle and have dry storage to strap to it (or you'd rather not have to chain up if bad weather hits....and would rather freeze on a 4wheeler.) I wouldn't use it to go down every pig trail though.

100% agree with packmule. Stay mobile. Stay in Gunnison. Good central location to various hunting spots.

Already put some pictures on the "meatpole" thread, but thought I'd put some here so I could say thanks for all the advice.
