New to this site but was wondering how it was up there this year. I'm planning on hunting this unit in a couple years, pics would be cool. Thanks

I've hunted (or helped) in Unit 55 on 3rd and 4th season tags in 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2011. After the hard winter of 2007 the quality and quantity of deer was decimated in that unit. The genetics are there and it will come back in time, but the upper end bucks taken in 2011 were typically in the 160's. Of course there will always be a slug in there somewhere, just not the numbers there used to be. The governor's buck was taken in there a couple years ago, but it actually moved in from private land in Unit 54 well after the hunting season. I think it is gonna take a couple years to start seeing bigger bucks come out of Unit 55, and several years for their to be good numbers of quality bucks, assuming there is not another devastating winter.

If you are looking for a 160's buck numerous units in Colorado will consistently produce those.

I currently have 7 points. With point creep and if the unit continues to improve, my guess is it will take 10-12 points by the time you or I catch up.

Old Hunter is right, the 3rd season elk hunt runs concurrent with the deer hunt and there are a lot of guys hunting.

I am located in unit 81. There are too many hunters, however there are some super deer. I have seen 200 class deer, one only 1/2 mile from my house. Last year a 236 was checked. I think a good deer can be killed but it would not be easy. Hunting from roads won't produce one. I have zero points but I sure would like to hunt it.
Unit 78 is another unit that you can hunt and should be able to find a 160. I wouldn't expect much more than 160 in that unit. I haven't looked at unit for 1 or 2 points lately.
